What is the greenhouse effect?
The greenhouse effect is the thermal radiation from a planetary surface which soaks up atmospheric greenhouse gases which re-radiation spreads in all directions. When the radiation reaches the surface and the lower atmosphere, the elevation of the average surface temperature decreases when the gases are not there. The temperature increases when the gases are there.
